There are so many colors in the world, and I know some people like to have super colorful homes and some not so many, no matter what side of the fence you're sitting on, you can't be going crazy with colors, the decor police will find you and shun you.
The first key to using accessories in your space is to look around your room and figure out what feels empty. The first place you'll probably look at is the walls. Determine what walls will need artwork, groupings of smaller pictures, or wall art. You want to treat each wall area as a separate area and make sure the items you place on the walls are in proportion.
If you have a typical height ceiling which is about... feet, you may be feeling a little too cramped in your space. Apart from taking the roof off your house and raising it, I have some other ideas to help you make your space feel larger.
Area rugs can create areas in an open floor plan and help create a grouping uniting the room in a function when you decide where you want the area rug, figure out what shape you will want. Area rugs come in a few different shapes, rectangles, squares, ovals, and circles. Once you got that decided, you need to measure the area where you want to put the area rug. The area rug is going to anchor all your furniture, so think of the area rug as a twister mat (remember that game?) you have to be touching the mat at all times, and so does your furniture, so your area rug should be larger than the blank space between your furniture pieces. Write your measurements down and go shopping.
