Make your Ceilings Appear Higher

If you have a typical height ceiling, which is about... feet, you may be feeling a little too cramped in your space. Apart from taking your roof off your house and raising it, I have some other Ideas to help you make your area feel larger.

Stripes- Wallpaper has made a big comeback, with that- you can enjoy the use of a striped wallpaper to add height to your space, Vertical stripes will elongate your walls guiding the eye up to the walls. If you are not a wallpaper person, you can always paint vertical stripes on your wall.

Drapery- You may have squatty windows that do nothing to enhance the height of your room, if this is you, hang your drapery closer to the ceiling, when the drapery is closed, you give off by suggestion that your window is more substantial and taller than it truly is.

Furniture- It would help if you also considered the height of your furnishings if everything in your room is short, you aren't helping your cause, you can add height with bookcases.

Artwork- Height can be added as well if you have some sizable vertical artwork, placing it throughout your space can almost mimic the height that you would find with columns, drawing your eye up to the piece of art.

Paint- You could paint it in high gloss or semi-gloss paint to reflect light and then make your ceiling less imposing. Also, paint the ceiling a lighter color than your walls.

These tips will get you on your way to loving your more open-feeling space.
